It's my last few weeks of the journey and we arrived in Costa Rica. Everyone told us Costa Rica is expensive, full of american tourists and kind of fake place. All these things are true. Friend of a friend Riikka lives in Puerto Viejo, and we decided to come over and say hello. We spend one night in San Juan and took the bus back to the Caribbean the very next day.
Puerto Viejo is a small town surrounded by beaches and has good surfing, it also has lively nightlife and yes, it's full of tourists. First few days we spent in a hammock hostel, 4 dollars a night. But then we got sick of all the Elton John songs they played all day every day and decided it's time to upgrade the accommodation a bit. At this point we met lovely Riikka and her surfer boyfriend Gabriel and moved into town. We got a cheap deal in a hotel, 7 dollars a night, own room and a decent fan, so we took it. Soon we found out that the hotel is full of crazy people! The owners are on drugs all the time and just acting strange, nothing to be afraid about but just a bit annoying. Also, we hear the music from 4 different bars blasting every night. Earplugs would be handy.. But hey, it's cheap!
The beaches are beautiful and the weather has been great. After a bit rusty start with Puerto Viejo we just decided to have fun, regardless of all the young americans and loopy heads who runs this hotel. Yesterday we started the day with yoga by the beach and then went on a trip with Riikka and her parents who are here on holidays as well to see the waterfalls nearby. Good day! Nice people and lots of laughs!
